Hey there Uke Aficionados,

I’ve got a load more fantastic tunes for you this month so get your instruments out – it’s time to work on your fingerstyle skills !

The English Dance (Estampie): Probably the oldest tune I know, dating back to perhaps the 14th century. It’s a great tune, quite difficult in places, all campanella picking. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/XrKeOnFS1hg

Yew Piney Mountain : Appalachian fiddle tune. B section only has seven bars instead of the usual eight. Watch it here : https://youtu.be/yLvq0a1JQj0

Old Molly Hare : This is a Scottish reel and is quite different to the Bluegrass song of the same name. It’s a fab tune, not too hard to play. Watch it here : https://youtu.be/PPgFgpENMZY

The Monaghan Jig : This is my absolute favourite Irish jig, it’s simple but there’s something dark about it. Four parts, so 32 bars, that’s a long one. Watch it here : https://youtu.be/YyEY7uGy3GY

Hey Mr Tambourine Man : The Dylan classic, I’ve used the Byrds’ intro riff for this arrangement. It’s a chord melody, but could easily be done as a fingerstyle piece. Watch it here : https://youtu.be/cp7IjElEIpQ

Old French : Sounds like an Irish hornpipe to me, but the name suggests it probably originated with French-speaking settlers in Canada or the US. It’s a nice tune, not too difficult. Watch it here : https://youtu.be/jmhOznp5jtk

Hekimoğlu : Turkish folk song, Hekimoğlu was an outlaw who distributed his stolen money to the poor, like a kind of Turkish Robin Hood. He was killed by the Ottoman authorities in 1913. This tune is really easy to play, and is a good introduction to campanella fingerstyle. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/ozJDqSEAbEg
